A rheumatologist is a medical practitioner that specializes in diagnosis and treatment of patients who suffer diseases that affect their muscles, joints and bones such as arthritis and diseases such as lupus fibromyalgia, osteoporosis and fibromyalgia that are majorly caused by a malfunctioning immune system of human being.

The rheumatologist will test the rheumatic system which includes x-rays and the chemical pathology to identify the exact cause and extent of the problem and prescribe the most appropriate treatment to the patient which could be medications, infusions and/or control of the diet and exercise regimen.

Step 1 : Medical Students that have already appeared or are now appearing in +2 (with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as major subjects) must also appear in an Medical Entrance Tests administered by different state and independent agencies such as PMT, administered by Punjab Government and AIPMT (Pre Medical Test) administered by CBSE to admit candidates into various medical institutions that are members of the CBSE. Some of the best rated medical institutions such as AIIMS, PGI, GMCH, AFMC Pune etc. do the separate test. These exams are conducted in general in the month of May-June.

Step 2 : Upon completing this four and half years MBBS degree course and one year and six months compulsory training required, one has to take M.D.(Medicine) -as Rheumatology is a branch of Internal Medicine- Aspiring MBBS doctors must pass Post Graduate Medical Entrance Tests such as All India Post Graduate Medical/Dental Entrance Exam and Jawaharlal Institute of Post-graduate Medicine and Research Entrance Exam. But there are also institutes that allow admission based on marks obtained in MBBS course and work experience of the course aspirants.

Step 3 : Upon completing 2-3 years of M.D. (Medicine) course and obtaining the necessary registration of Medical Council of India, the prospective Rheumatologist may secure employment in the well-known Government and Private Hospitals, such as the AIIMS, PGI etc. A rheumatologist who has good entrepreneurial ability can also establish his own Clinic and offer treatment to the patients.
